Irixpkg is a command-line package installation tool for IRIX. It is similar to Gentoo portage and Debian apt system.

The combination of SGI/Irxi was used for the development of audio-software, during the 1990's, at several institutes for electro-acoustic music (CNMAT/USA, IRCAM/France, NOTAM/Norway), because of its tight integration with the available i/o facilities (in particular the (ADAT optical interface)) and low latency on their hardware. For this last one, see CNMAT's Adrian Freed paper from 1997:

About NOTAM Mix
A visual mixing tool for Irix and Mac OSX.
- Download file http://www.notam02.no/arkiv/sgi/mix.tar.gz and cd to the appropriate directory.
- Then unpack with gunzip mix.tar.gz
- Then extract with tar xf mix.tar
- You may now repack the tar file with gzip mix.tar
- See mix/README for further installation.
The mix directory contains a precompiled binary for IRIX (>=6.2).
(PS encountered the following problems: the README and the mix-resource file are set executable. I have no directory /usr/lib/HelpCards yet. running the Install_icon script as root gave a warning and an error:
Warning (gimp.ftr): gimp.xcf.fti is missing.
gimp.ftr, line 25: Warning: could not open source file
"gimp.xcf.fti" -- ignoring the include directive!
/bin/sh: syntax error at line 1 : `then' unmatched
/usr/sbin/fftr local/local.otr install/install.otr system/system.otr default/default.otr -o desktop.otr

The program seems to work though. :-)
